Shadakshari Lokeshvara IV, 2009

Acrylic on paper

38 x 32 inches (image)

Most Tibetan deities are shown in their bliss body (samboghakaya) which is indicated by their dress: the 8 types of jeweled ornaments (crown, earrings, 3 types of necklaces, bracelets, arm bands and rings) and the 5 types of silk garments (shawl, scarf, skirt, sash and tie that holds the jewels of the crown together).

The bliss body or body of visionary enjoyment is one of 3 bodies of an enlightened Buddha, the other two are the body of truth (dharmakaya) and the physical body (nirmanakaya).
