While living in Bennington, Vermont, a group of us met weekly to draw and paint at Judy Meneely’s house and we always had a model, and the model always posed on the green sofa in her living room, hence most of our paintings included the green sofa, hence the title of the group.  Also, note that the exhibition was held at the Green Mountain Arts Collaborative which was founded by this same group.  We rented a loft space in an industrial building, mounted exhibitions, and then charged admission to the receptions in order to pay the rent.  This was in the days of the CETA Program (Comprehensive Employment and Training Act), so we even had CETA workers who would keep the space open during the day.
